In 2000, the Australian Customs Service National Waterfront Project was conceived to provide operational efficiencies and border protection at ports around Australia. For a country with a 37,000 kilometre coastline, this was a big task to complete!
For the Tasmanian component of the 32 Ports Project, Customs required the installation of a comprehensive security system throughout the four main Tasmanian port locations.
KWMC utilised all facets of CCTV technology such as video and data transmission via fibre, microwave and ISDN. Comprehensive local and remote control rooms were also established.
Since the original installation, KWMC have carried out a number of upgrades in order to ensure the system utilises the most leading-edge technologies and equipment available. This ensures that the sites remain operational and at their peak performance level. This is vital, due to the “mission critical” nature of these systems.
In 2006, Customs selected KWMC to complete the Tasmanian section of the Australian Customs Service 31 Ports Project at three new port locations in Tasmania.
By retaining, maintaining and expanding our business relationship with Customs since 2000, we have demonstrated our technical ability, experience, and quality of our work, and more importantly our commitment to building a reliable, long-term customer relationship.
As a result of these comprehensive systems being installed, Customs has been able to strengthen homeland security and their anti-terrorism management strategy.
The successful management and delivery of projects of this scale, scope and complexity is testament to KWMC’s in-built expertise and our long history of completing large-scale confidential and sensitive projects.
